God in the Waiting Room

🌞 Holy Moments in Ordinary Days: A Summer Reflection Series
Week 2
Waiting can feel like the loneliest room in the world.
It’s the space between prayer and promise. Between hope and clarity. Between “God, I trust you” and “God, where are you?”
And I don’t know about you, but I’m not naturally patient. I like to know what’s next. I like movement. Progress. Signs. I want answers when I ask for them... not in five months, or five years, or never in the way I imagined.
But if I’m honest, most of the growth in my life hasn’t come from the mountaintops. It’s come from the waiting rooms.
Because waiting makes you listen differently.
It strips away your distractions.
It teaches you how to look for God in places you weren’t paying attention before.
I think about how long some of the people in scripture had to wait:
Abraham waited decades for a child.
Joseph waited in prison for years before the dream made sense.
David was anointed as king long before he ever sat on a throne.
And even Jesus waited 30 years before starting his ministry.
So why do we think waiting means God is ignoring us?
Maybe waiting is where the real work happens... the work in us, not just around us.
In my own seasons of delay, I’ve started asking a new kind of question:
Not “God, why is this taking so long?”
But “God, what are you doing in me while I wait?”
Because if I believe he’s kind…
If I believe he’s intentional…
If I believe he’s never late…
Then this space isn’t empty.
It’s sacred.
Pause & Ponder
What are you waiting for right now? What emotions rise up when you think about it? What might God be whispering to you in the middle of this pause?
Scripture to Sit With
Psalm 27:14 (NIV):
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
Small Step This Week
Choose one area of your life where you’re tempted to rush ahead. Instead, pause and pray:
“God, teach me how to wait well here. Even when it’s quiet.”
