🌞 Holy Moments in Ordinary Days: A Summer Reflection Series
Week 4
I don’t know about you, but I love a good plan. I like waking up knowing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing, what I’m crossing off my list, and how I’ll feel once it’s all complete. There’s a kind of peace in predictability.
But then… life happens.
The phone rings.
Someone needs help.
A meeting runs long.
Your emotions catch you off guard.
The thing you thought you were in control of? Suddenly you’re not.
And when that happens, my first reaction is usually irritation or disappointment not because I don’t care, but because I do. I care about showing up for people. I care about being responsible. I care about feeling like I have some kind of rhythm to my day.
But lately, I’ve been noticing something:
The interruptions are where God has been speaking the loudest.
One day this past month, I had a full schedule planned. Tight timing. Everything mapped out to the minute. But early that morning, I got a call from someone who just needed to talk. My first instinct was to say, “I can’t today... maybe tomorrow?” But something in me said, pause.
So I did.
And that conversation, that unplanned, unstructured, totally inconvenient moment… turned into the most sacred space.
We cried. We laughed. We remembered God’s faithfulness. And honestly, it was more nourishing to my soul than anything I had written on that to-do list.
I’m realizing that the presence of God isn’t limited to quiet times and worship songs and Sunday services.
It often shows up when the plan falls apart.
It’s in the delay.
The detour.
The flat tire.
The canceled plans that leave you with unexpected stillness.
The conversation that wasn’t in the calendar but was right on time.
Jesus lived this way. He was often on his way somewhere when people interrupted him and some of his greatest miracles happened in the in-between. What if we stopped treating interruptions like obstacles and started treating them like invitations?
Invitations to be present.
To surrender control.
To see what heaven might be unfolding behind the inconvenience.
Pause & Ponder
Think back to a moment when your day didn’t go as planned. Could it be that God was gently redirecting your attention to something more important?
Scripture to Sit With
Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Small Step This Week
Let something go this week. A plan, a rigid schedule, a perfectly timed routine. And when something changes without your permission, pause and ask,
“God… what are you doing here?”
Let your schedule be soft enough to hold a miracle.
