I used to think turning 30 would feel like arriving. Like there would be this big moment where everything just clicked. Where I’d suddenly feel completely sure of myself, my purpose, my relationships, and where my life was headed. I thought 30 would look like having all the answers. Like I’d walk into this new decade feeling polished, settled, and fully put together. Turns out… that’s not really how it works. Instead, it feels more like reflection.
Like standing at the edge of one chapter and realizing just how much the last ten years changed me. How much I’ve grown, how much I’ve lost, how much I’ve learned, and how much I’m still becoming.
My 20s stretched me.
They taught me lessons I definitely didn’t ask for and gave me growth I probably would’ve avoided if I had the choice. There was joy, yes, but there was also heartbreak. There were prayers answered and prayers I’m still waiting on. There were friendships that got stronger and others that quietly faded. There were moments I felt so sure of myself and moments I questioned everything. And somehow, every single part of it mattered.
Heartbreak taught me that love without peace isn’t love I want to keep chasing. It taught me that sometimes letting go is the healthiest thing you can do, even when it hurts. It taught me that clarity is kindness and confusion is not something I have to entertain.
Friendships taught me that not everyone is meant to come with you into every season. Some people are for a chapter, not the whole story. And while that used to feel heavy, I’ve learned that growth often requires release. Real friendship isn’t forced... it’s intentional, mutual, and safe.
My faith matured in ways I didn’t expect. Not because life got easier, but because it didn’t. Because I had seasons where all I could do was trust God without understanding what he was doing. I learned that faith isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it looks like showing up anyway. Praying anyway. Believing anyway.
I learned boundaries. And yes, I wish I learned them sooner. I learned that saying no doesn’t make me difficult. That protecting my peace isn’t selfish. That everyone doesn’t deserve unlimited access to me. Boundaries taught me that love and wisdom can exist together and that I can be kind without abandoning myself.
I learned discernment. I stopped confusing attention for intention. I stopped holding onto potential and started paying attention to patterns. I learned to trust what people show me instead of getting attached to who I hoped they’d become.
And maybe one of the best lessons of all... I learned how to choose peace. Not perfection. Peace. Because perfection is exhausting. It keeps you performing, proving, and constantly feeling behind. Peace lets you breathe. Peace reminds you that your worth was never tied to how quickly you figured life out.
I also had to let go of timelines. The version of me that thought life had to happen a certain way by a certain age had to be released. Because life doesn’t always follow the plan. And looking back, I’m actually grateful for that.
Some things I thought I wanted, I’m thankful didn’t work out. Some delays were protection. Some endings were redirection. Some disappointments were grace in disguise. That kind of perspective only comes with time.
So now, as 30 gets closer, I’m not feeling pressure.
I’m feeling excited.
Excited because I know myself better now. Excited because I trust God differently now. Excited because I’ve stopped trying to force things that were never meant for me.Excited because I know peace is worth protecting. I’m not walking into 30 trying to prove anything. I’m walking in with more clarity, stronger boundaries, deeper faith, and a whole lot more confidence in who I am. And that feels good.
30 doesn’t feel like an ending. It feels like permission. Permission to stop rushing. Permission to trust myself. Permission to believe that the best parts of my story might still be ahead.
I’m not walking into 30 as the woman I thought I’d be. I’m walking in as the woman I fought to become.
And if this is what becoming looks like…
30 might just be my best chapter yet.
